The thrill of racing snowmobiles over water has attracted thousands of spectators over the years. Grantsburg's three days of racing features the top racers from the United States and Canada, each hoping to capture the World Champion honor and the large cash purse.
The four-day event features something for everyone! Spectators enjoy a panoramic view of the Memory Lake racing area, during beautiful July weather. There is plenty of spectator room, plus camping facilities, displays, vendors, wrist wrestling championships, food booths, and activities.
The racing portion of Watercross includes drag and oval racing over water on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Races start about 12:00 noon Friday and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday and run until about 4:30 p.m. The races are sanctioned by the International Watercross Association (IWA), the professional racing group. The Grantsburg Watercross is the "World Championship" race within the IWA racing circuit (iwausa.org) , and our race is known as the "Granddaddy of Them All" by the racers. As the event is an outdoor event we order great weather each year and Mother Nature usually smiles on us.
